SAMREC will provide opportunities for world class research with both national and international collaboration and will thus also contribute to a sustainable interest in the South African eco-system.
SAMREC has received funding from the National Lotteries Board as well as from the National Ports Authority ( NPA ) that will cover the building of the rehab center, however we will continually be sourcing alternative sources of funding to cover equipping of the center and our day to day running costs and to try and obtain a MAJOR SPONSOR for finishing our educational center and PENGUIN pool .In return, the aforesaid sponsor will gain branding rights!
Due to the huge delay in building SAMREC, SAMREC finally started construction in 2008 and is due to be completed by April 2009. Our official opening should be in June 2009.
